Finder - Termed a “gateway consumer health and human services information web site” this site includes information on more than 500 clearinghouses, databases, web sites, support, and self-help groups, plus governmental and private organizations that produce reliable information for the public. Information can be retrieved by subject area.
- MEDLINE PLUS - Site that provides access to current medical research for health professionals and consumers. It has free access to more than 9 million journal citations in medline and related databases as well as links to self-help groups, access to NIH health information, and information on ongoing clinical trials. The pages are intended to help research health questions, and include dictionaries of medical terms, directors of doctors and hospital, and a medical encyclopedia.

The site includes news and perspectives, treatment updates, health facts, a medical dictionary, and an index of commonly used prescription and over the counter medications (listed by both generic and brand names).
- Medscape - Medscape is primarily oriented towards professionals but offers information on news and research findings that can be very useful for family members. This generic health site is organized according to various medical specialties and there is a specific home page focused on psychiatry. The news articles on mental health are comprehensive, evidence-based, and referenced. A brief registration is required to use
medscape.

(NIH) of the US Dept. of Health and Human Services, this site provides an overview of
NIH; selected information on diseases and conditions under investigation at
NIH; updates on grants, research training programs, and research contacts; and research news and information.
- National Rehabilitation Information
Center - Operated by the US Dept. of Education, this site collects and disseminates the results of federally funded research projects focusing on rehabilitation and disability research. Customized searches are available of a huge database of literature (including audiovisuals), which grows by approximately 200 new documents per month.
- PubMed - PubMed provides citations for more than 10 million medical articles. The search engine at the site enables the user to access citations that are often linked to full-text journals at web sites of participating publishers. PubMed includes the National Library of Medicine’s premier database: MEDLINE, which covers the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and pre-clinical sciences.

- Cochrane Collaboration Consumer
Network - Searchable by topic area, this site contains more than 400 consumer synopses of Cochrane Systemic review abstracts (with links to the original abstracts) to help clinicians and consumers make informed health care decisions. A glossary of health care research terms is also available.
- Consumer Versions of the Clinical Practice
Guidelines - The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality links consumers to 16 full-text clinical guidelines for patients from Health Services Technology Assessment Texts
(HSTAT).
- DISCERN - Since 1996, this UK organization has worked to empower consumers and providers to better evaluate online health information. The full DISCERN instrument teaches how to determine a publication’s reliability and the Quick Reference Guide lists key points to consider while researching treatment options.
- EMedicine World Medical Library - This site provides free, up-to-date, evidence-based information. Searches can be restricted to a consumer option for information from on-line textbooks and a growing collection of consumer treatment guidelines.

Medicine - Breakthrough research from select Annals of Internal Medicine articles is translated into everyday language. The American College of Physicians provides succinct explanations of studies purposes, methodologies, findings, limitations, and care implications.
